Creating a "Spark" for Discovery
Our goal in providing the Discovery Box for elementary school classrooms is to stimulate the passion for science and the love for learning in students in the early grades. Upon achieving this goal, students will develop a natural curiosity and interest in science that will ensure that they excel in science throughout their schooling and perhaps into their careers. The Discovery Box enhances your current science curriculum by providing natural specimens for hands-on examination and inquiry-based learning. Traditionally, elementary students are taught science for a few hours per week through a text book and an occasional lab kit. This approach often fails to provide the spark that opens the minds of students to the endless discoveries found in science. For students to really become passionate learners, they need a readily accessible hands-on learning environment in the classroom. In addition to using the Discovery Box for science lessons, it can serve as the centerpiece of a “Discovery Corner” that is always present in the classroom and available for students to engage in independent explorations and guided activities. Such activities can be integrated with other subjects such as reading, writing, social studies and art to create a holistic learning experience.
Mini-Grants Available

We are please to offer $200 and $100 mini-grants for the purchase of a Discovery Box for your school.
Goal: World Discovery Box is interested in partnering with the education community to explore new and innovative ways the Discovery Box can be an effective learning resource for students. We are selecting teachers with the creativity and motivation to find interesting ways the Discovery Box can be incorporated into student learning. We request that grant recipients provide us written feedback of their experiences with the Discovery Box by November.
Details: -Applicant is teacher in grades Pre-K - 5 -Application completed by June 3, 2011 -Response will be provided within 2 weeks of submission -Ten $200 and forty $100 mini-grants are available -Application information is kept confidential
-Mini-grant may only be used for purchase of one or more Discovery Boxes for a school. Grant will be only honored as a credit on a purchase order submitted. Grant may only be used to cover cost of Discovery Boxes. Grant will not cover shipping cost and other fees or taxes if applicable. Grant expires September 1, 2011. -Applicants not receiving grant will receive discount offer.
