The Discovery Box offers an effective hands-on learning environment for science for K-5 classrooms. But the Discovery goes beyond science and provides a tactile experience for learning activities in reading, writing and even art. Incorporating natural items found in the Discovery Box into learning activities expands the imagination of kids and stimulates different learning styles.

Creating a "Spark" for Discovery

Our goal in providing the Discovery Box for elementary school classrooms is to stimulate the passion for science and the love for learning in students in the early grades. Upon achieving this goal, students will develop a natural curiosity and interest in science that will ensure that they excel in science throughout their schooling and perhaps into their careers. The Discovery Box enhances your current science curriculum by providing natural specimens for hands-on examination and inquiry-based learning. Traditionally, elementary students are taught science for a few hours per week through a text book and an occasional lab kit. This approach often fails to provide the spark that opens the minds of students to the endless discoveries found in science. For students to really become passionate learners, they need a readily accessible hands-on learning environment in the classroom. In addition to using the Discovery Box for science lessons, it can serve as the centerpiece of a “Discovery Corner” that is always present in the classroom and available for students to engage in independent explorations and guided activities. Such activities can be integrated with other subjects such as reading, writing, social studies and art to create a holistic learning experience.
